Staff Sensor Validation and Characterisation Engineer

Website Dedicated HR Services

Confidential client: an automotive and industrial sensing technology company building next-generation LiDAR products.

The role

A player-coach technical leader who drives hands-on validation and characterisation of next-generation LiDAR products while guiding the validation pipeline. You connect measured performance to system requirements, algorithms and opto-mechanical design, working with systems, algorithms, firmware, hardware and optics teams toward automotive-grade release readiness. You will be the first validation and characterisation engineer in the Bengaluru team, helping build its team, culture and technical foundation.

What you will do

  • Own the validation and characterisation strategy: test plans, metrics, acceptance criteria and traceability to requirements
  • Lead hands-on lab characterisation: operate equipment, configure sensors, and measure range, accuracy, resolution, reflectivity response and latency
  • Plan and run real-world field campaigns: test routes, vehicle instrumentation, synchronised sensor and reference data, and analysis across operating conditions
  • Develop automated test frameworks, data collection pipelines and analysis tools
  • Analyse lab and field data to find trends, root causes and regressions, and drive corrective action with partner teams
  • Define and maintain validation interfaces and performance budgets that map results to specification compliance
  • Support design verification, release readiness reviews and customer or OEM validation requests with test evidence
  • Act as the senior technical liaison for validation across disciplines and in design and milestone reviews

What you bring

  • 10+ years in sensor validation, characterisation or test engineering, with end-to-end ownership through release
  • Deep hands-on characterisation of LiDAR, radar, camera or similar sensors in the lab and the real world; automotive LiDAR strongly preferred
  • Has designed and executed performance campaigns: test plans, instrumentation, data acquisition and statistical analysis
  • Proficient with lab equipment and optical or time-of-flight measurement (power meters, spectrometers, motion stages, reference targets, GNSS/IMU logging, data loggers)
  • Python, MATLAB or similar for large sensor datasets and characterisation reports
  • Working knowledge of how opto-mechanical design, DSP algorithms and hardware limits affect measurable performance
  • Strong analytical and communication skills across multidisciplinary teams
  • ASPICE, ISO 26262 or ISO/SAE 21434 verification workflows are a plus. Pure software, HIL or ECU validation, or research-only profiles are not a fit.
