Plant Heads who run safe, compliant and profitable sites.
A plant runs on its leader. We find Plant Heads who can hold safety, quality, cost and people together, often in locations far from the metros.
What the role owns
- Safety and compliance: zero-harm culture, statutory and environmental compliance, and audit readiness (USFDA, EU GMP, ISO, customer audits).
- Output, quality and cost: OEE, yields, scrap, conversion cost and on-time delivery.
- People and industrial relations: supervisors, contract labour, unions and skill building.
- Expansion and projects: brownfield and greenfield capacity, commissioning and ramp-up.
Where we hire it: across 18+ industries, including API and formulation plants, CDMO sites, specialty chemical and fluorochemical plants, heavy engineering and capital goods, electrical equipment, automotive and auto components, process equipment, food processing and water treatment chemicals.
When the plant needs a new leader: a retirement announced a year ahead, or a resignation that lands on a Monday. An audit finding that changes priorities overnight. A greenfield site, a new product line or a move into a new region. The brief changes each time; the plant still has to run tomorrow.
We do not push Plant Heads at clients. We check safety records, audit history and shop floor references, so the profile arrives with its own proof.
Hiring challenges
- Many plants sit in industrial belts (Vizag, Bharuch, Baddi, Dahej, Hosur, Pune outskirts) where relocating a family is the main barrier.
- Regulated plants need leaders with clean audit histories, and that pool is small and heavily poached.
- Engineered-to-order and job-shop factories need very different leaders from mass-production plants, and CVs rarely show the difference.
- Union and contract labour environments need maturity that cannot be learned on the job.
How we assess fit
- Track record: safety record, audit outcomes (483s, warning letters, how they were closed), OEE and cost results, verified by referencing.
- Cultural fit: how decisions flow between plant and head office, and the promoter's involvement in the shop floor.
- Behavioural fit: calm under pressure, discipline, and how they build supervisors and handle unions.
- Aspiration and personal goals: multi-site or COO ambition, greenfield experience, family relocation and schooling.
Ownership and Plant Head fit
| Ownership type | What the Plant Head role looks like | What we test for |
|---|---|---|
| Indian family or promoter business | Hands-on promoter, quick decisions, lean support functions. | Promoter chemistry, self-reliance, cost discipline. |
| MNC subsidiary | Global systems, strict EHS and quality, structured careers. | Process discipline, global audit readiness, reporting. |
| Large listed company | Multi-site network with central standards. | Scale, standardisation, leading through managers. |
| PE-backed company | Rapid capacity growth and margin improvement. | Ramp-up speed, capex execution, results under pressure. |
Our process: a brief with the COO or promoter, a site visit where useful, a mapped market of sitting plant leaders, discreet outreach, assessment and referencing. Typically 2 to 3 weeks (passive job seekers) from brief to offer, depending on location and how narrow the brief is.
